Zululand denotes the northern region of the Kwazulu-Natal province. The rich history of this area details the intense competition between clans for domination of the area, including the Zulus led by Shaka himself. Today, this region is largely untouched, forming a beautiful natural sanctuary of reserves. These include the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Reserve, well known for its involvement in saving the white rhinoceros species from extinction. Additionally, some spectacular scuba diving opportunities arise along the Kwazulu-Natal Coast. This historical area provides a nice chance for visitors to tread off the beaten path, and experience a part of Africa unknown to most.
